Solera Senior Living Among First to Receive COVID-19 Vaccine, Targeting 90%+ Participation for Residents and Staff

January 14, 2021 By pinegrove-admin

During the past year, the top priority at all Solera Senior Living communities across the U.S. has been the health, safety and security of our residents and staff. The COVID-19 pandemic presented us with unprecedented challenges, and we are greatly appreciative for the day-to-day support and dedication shown by our residents, families and team members as they followed the protocols set forth by local, state and federal health authorities.

While so many of our residents and loved ones have patiently held off on scheduling personal visits, offsite excursions, group gatherings, birthday parties, anniversary celebrations and other meaningful occasions, we are optimistic at the chance to restore a sense of normalcy thanks to the arrival of the COVID-19 vaccination.

Solera is pleased to announce that we are among the first senior living communities to receive vaccination prioritization thanks to the U.S. Government’s Emergency Use Authorization of multiple COVID-19 vaccines. Additionally, in an effort to meaningfully increase safety and peace of mind, Solera has mandated that both residents and team members receive the vaccine (outside of exceptions for health or religious reasons).  Solera is targeting 90 percent-plus participation, well above the industry norms of 50-60 percent.

Solera team members, as well as our assisted living and memory care residents, have already begun receiving the vaccinations in the comfort of our communities — at no cost to them. Plans for the rollout of vaccination clinics at all of our communities are well underway, and we are in continuous contact with federal health authorities and designated pharmacies to ensure a smooth rollout of the vaccinations. As part of the vaccine prioritization, all of the Solera properties had their initial clinics scheduled for January 2021 in addition to offering ongoing clinics monthly through their preferred pharmacy.

While we are elated to near this vaccination milestone, we realize the importance of maintaining our diligence in preventing COVID-19. We will continue to follow the many safety protocols in place at our communities, including the use of personal protective equipment, rigorous testing as directed by local health authorities and enhanced cleaning measures. We will, as always, follow the direction of health authorities to ensure the wellbeing of all residents and staff throughout the culmination of this pandemic.

If you have any questions regarding Solera’s COVID-19 safety, prevention and vaccination protocols, please speak with your Health and Wellness Director or your Executive Director.

Tips for Touring Assisted Living Communities

December 10, 2020 By pinegrove-admin

Finding the right assisted living facility for your loved one is one of the most important decisions you can make. We’ve compiled the top elements to look for when assessing a senior assisted living community.  During your visit, consider the quality of care that your loved one may receive. The decision of “if, when and where to move” resides solely with you and your loved one, so consider what factors are ultimately important to you.

Coronavirus Update – November 19, 2020 at 3 p.m.

November 19, 2020 By pinegrove-admin

November 19, 2020 at 3:00 pm

Dear Pine Grove Crossing Community,

We are providing you an update regarding our community Covid-19 status.  As we mentioned in yesterday’s letter, we were awaiting results from Tuesday’s testing of residents.  Based on those test results, three additional Memory Care residents and one associate were identified as positive for Covid-19.

We will continue with testing of all residents and associates twice weekly, on Tuesdays and Fridays, over the next few weeks.

All residents in Memory Care are still considered in isolation with all care being delivered by associates in full PPE.  No Memory Care associates are crossing over to the Assisted Living.  We are closely adhering to all recommendations from the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) and Tri-County Health Department as well as those of our Medical Consultant, Dr. Gagandeep Singh. We have placed a large PPE order to ensure proper supplies are on hand and will receive those supplies this week.

As we indicated previously, all outdoor visitation for the community is on hold. The Assisted Living dining room will remain closed until further notice and we have suspended small group activities.  All residents are encouraged to stay in their apartments. Please consider planning a window visit or Facetime call with your loved one to stay in touch during this time.

Please remember that you can always check our Hotline for regular updates and those can be heard at (720) 874-9097.  If you have any further questions, please reach out to Pine Grove Crossing’s Executive Director, Iva Prinsen, at (303) 996-8000.

Sincerely,

Tom Finley and Susie Finley

Dear Pine Grove Crossing Community,

We are providing you an update regarding our community Covid-19 status.  Surveillance testing of associates on Monday identified an asymptomatic Covid-19 positive associate.  This associate is resting comfortably at home.  As of today, there are no additional symptomatic or positive associates.  All residents were tested yesterday and we are awaiting results.

COVID-19 Update – November 16, 2020 at 5:30 p.m.

November 17, 2020 By pinegrove-admin

November 16, 2020 at 5:30 pm

Dear Pine Grove Crossing Community,

We are providing you an update regarding our community Covid-19 status.  As of today we have two positive Memory Care residents that we had previously reported to you and seven other symptomatic residents.  Of the two positive residents, one tested positive through PCR testing and the other tested positive with rapid testing but negative with PCR.  They are both being treated as positive. The seven other symptomatic residents have tested negative for Covid-19 but we are continuing to monitor them and will conduct further testing this week.  We are also working with their primary care physicians to identify if influenza or any other testing is recommended.

The symptomatic residents as well as all other residents and associates will be tested twice weekly, on Tuesdays and Fridays, during this time period.  The Memory Care residents and the majority of the Assisted Living were tested from last Thursday through last Saturday.  All residents will be tested again tomorrow.

All residents in Memory Care are in isolation with all care being delivered by associates in full PPE.

The Assisted Living dining room will remain closed until further notice and we have suspended small group activities.  All residents are encouraged to stay in their apartments. Please consider planning a window visit or Facetime call with your loved one to stay in touch during this time.

Several family members have asked about taking their loved ones out for the holidays and the protocols associated with that.  Based on the highly elevated numbers county and statewide, this is certainly not a practice that is being encouraged.  We will get information out in the next few days on protocols upon return to the community, for those who choose to take loved ones out over the holidays.

Please remember that you can always check our Hotline for regular updates and those can be heard at (720) 874-9097.  If you have any further questions, please reach out to Pine Grove Crossing’s Executive Director, Iva Prinsen, at (303) 996-8000.

Sincerely,

Tom & Susie Finley – Founder & Principal

Why Older Adults Should Eat More Protein (And Not Overdo Protein Shakes)

November 12, 2020 By pinegrove-admin

Older adults need to eat more protein-rich foods when losing weight, dealing with a chronic or acute illness, or facing a hospitalization, according to a growing consensus among scientists.

During these stressful periods, aging bodies process protein less efficiently and need more of it to maintain muscle mass and strength, bone health and other essential physiological functions.

Even healthy seniors need more protein than when they were younger to help preserve muscle mass, experts suggest. To learn more about the impact and importance of protein in a senior’s diet, CLICK HERE.
